Because drawing non-traditional mermaids is a whole lot of fun.

The flat coloring I did for this was inspired by two things - :iconrosalarian:'s recent vector images and a watercolor wash technique I'm using in one of my art classes. It was interesting, and oddly time-consuming, to do this in colored pencil. But I like how it turned out. Also, thanks to my llovely :iconladydragontear: for helping me figure out the background color. I was having a lot of trouble with it and I couldn't have done it without her :heart:

I'm mesmerized by the flowing hair around those twined faces. Different mermaids rock! You have just opened my eyes to a whole new world of ideas...considering I've seen non-horse centaurs I'm wondering why I didn't think of such a thing as applicable to mermaids but thanks for inadvertently poking me with the concept! ^^
